The BMF have highlighted in a press release today the DVLA (Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority) consultation document on the pros and cons of using EVI for motorcycles as a means of addressing both tax evasion and criminal activity.
So they suggest that motorcyclists alone should have their bikes tagged!! So are we more statistically likely to be criminals or avoid our road tax? Where do the ambitions of the surveillance state end?
Do you as a law abiding motorcyclist want to have your motorcycle electronically tagged so "Big Brother" can know your every movement when your on your motorcycle?
This proposal is a slur against all law-abiding motorcyclists and a gross infringement of our civil liberties, do you want to have your motorbike electronically tagged and hence you when your on it, just like a criminal?
I'm amazed that this can be be put forward as a sensible policy possibility.
How much money has been wasted on this idea so far? Money that would have been better spent on putting more policemen on the beat and back in patrol cars on our roads.
I urge all fellow motorcyclists to resist this proposal by backing the BMF, MAG and writing to your MP to object.
Tell inter-bike what you?
We'd love to hear your views.

BMW K1200GT
The K1200 GT is a luxury long distance tourer that can wheelie and scratch with sportsbikes. Not many motorcycles can stake that claim, and the Gran Turismo sets the new benchmark.
Pushing the K12's hefty 285kg mass is a respectable enough 130bhp, but it's the 86 ft./lbs torque that gives it the get up and go. The K1200 GT will touch on a top end of a GPS-confirmed 153 mph. The huge fairing and heated grips keep the weather at bay for a turbulence free ride, even when chasing the 155mph limiter.
The EVO braking system is unusual but it was quickly agreed that they were perfect for this bike, improving stopping performance dramatically. Both brakes are servo-assisted for power and when the front lever is applied a linkage automatically engages the rear brake as well.
As far as rider friendliness is concerned the K1200 GT is astounding. For sportier riders the adjustable foot pegs can be raised for better ground clearance which involves a two-minute process a monkey could complete without a snag. The seat height is also two-way adjustable and the windscreen position as electrically adjustable, a la FJR1300.
An optional cruise control system is available, but on most roads you'll be busy riding this bike as opposed to driving it, so save that option for the cars. Optional satellite navigation system tuned specifically for motorcycles.
BMW F 800 ST
This middleweight definitely goes the distance.
The "twisties" are yours to devour anywhere in the country aboard the new 85 bhp F 800 ST, which is the touring version of the lithe new F 800. With a full fairing, high windshield and touring oriented ergonomics with raised handlebars, bombing down any road you choose is as comfortable as it is thrilling. Two 320 mm diameter front brake disk and Brembo four piston hydraulic calipers, and with optional ABS every ride stopping power is guaranteed. Add optional touring cases and heated grips and you've got a bike that is fast, flickable, and above extraordinarily capable. No matter where you want to ride, the sharp-handling F 800 ST gets you there, mile after mile.

Motorcycling in Scotland
MAG UK today published a press release highlighting the release by the Scottish Executive of a document entitled "Motorcycling in Scotland - Guidance for Local Authorities".
It would seem that this document recognises motorcycling as a legitimate form of transport which benefits society by helping to reduce traffic congestion, reduce environmental damage and increasing social mobility.
At last a positive view of motorcycling, shame these views are only expressed north of Hadrian's wal, but its good start!
Read the full MAG press release on www.inter-bike.co.uk by clicking here.

Common sense prevails - the off -road bill dies!!!
At last some common sense has prevailed. The Off Road Vehicles (Registration) Bill has been withdraw due to opposition by Government, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), and lobbying by the MRA and other organisations.
So the risk of trials bikes, motor cross bikes, circuit bikes, and quads, being forced to carry number plates has gone for the time being.
