Ducati New Motorcycles

Ducati has introduced its new generation 1098 Superbikes this week at the Milan Motorcycle show in Italy. Th new machine produces 160hp and 90.4lbs/ft of torque, which results in making the 1098 the most powerful twin-cylinder motorcycle in the world, with the highest torque-to-weight ratio of any sport bike. In addition,Ducati claims the 1098 is also the lightest open class Superbike available, weighing in at 381 pounds.

With one dramatic step Ducati has introduced a new generation Superbike, the base 1088 model of which produces significantly more horsepower and is significantly lighter in weight than the out going top rated 999R model, at a price which is less than half. It's something old, something new, something borrowed and something very red from the Bologna mafia who need a winner in the showroom to match their winning on the track. And this is it.

No Chips for Bikers!

At last some positive motorcycling news here in the UK!

Yesterday the DVLA (Driver Vehicle and Licensing Agency) said it would not be seeking goverment approval to fit micro chips (EVI) to motorcycle number plates.

So we won't be tagged like common criminals!!!!

Apparently its down to money, they estimate it would cost £100 million to implement but only recoup £27 million, phew!

Further we all got an apology from them for overstating motorcycle VED evasion at 40% rather than the correct 6%.

Bikes in London bus lanes furore continues!

The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) has now weighed in on the debacle of the banning of motorcycles in bus lanes in London, by London Mayor Ken Livingstone.

I quote one very telling line from their press release, which I think sums up how many of us motorcyclist are feeling:-

“The report that Mr Livingstone has published today is little more than politically ‘spun’ tripe, pedalled to suit a negative view about motorcycling which has been heavily promoted by the Mayor’s anti-motorcycle transport advisors"

So again in this country we are facing with more blatant anti-motorcycling tripe, frankly I'm appalled that the Mayor has been allowed to get away with this, it some democracy we live in when bikers lives can be put at risk!!

The Moto Morini Avio
The Moto Morini 1200 Sport.

IN spring 2008 Moto Morini is launching two new models based on the fantastic Corsacorta Bialbero 1187 cc twin-cylinder engine.

The first is the Avio, a version of the Corsaro which will make 120HP and 102 Nm of torque and secondly is the 1200 Sport based on the successful Moto Morini 9 ½ with classic 1070's styling.

Having road tested the 9 ½ I can't wait hopefully to try these models out later in the year.

No motorbikes in bus lanes in London

London Mayor Ken Livingstone that motorcycles would not be permitted to use bus lanes on roads controlled by Transport for London.

What a negative move this is!!! Particularly when
motorcycles are permitted to use bus lanes in Bristol, Reading, Swindon, Hull, Northern Ireland and many other towns and cities in the UK with no perceived problems.

So again politics's overrides common sense and the biker loses out.

Triumph Motorcycles Sprint St 2008

Life is full of compromises, as are many motorcycles. The Sprint ST, thankfully, doesn't have to make any. It's a sports bike that covers miles, a touring bike that carves corners with a truly usable mix of poise, power and all-round practicality.

And the Sprint ST has evolved even further. Its new 1050cc, fuel-injected, triple-cylinder motor has more of everything that makes it so usable - more torque, for effortless drive in any gear and more horsepower for when it's needed. Further refining the engine is a revised gearbox and clutch while the lusty nature of the three-cylinder layout, with its creamy delivery, remains unfettered.

Matching the Sprint ST's engine is a new chassis with redesigned beam frame, cartridge-style telescopic forks and five-spoke wheels. Its sleek look is simply stunning and everywhere little touches, like the chrome infill bars and front indicators set in the mirrors, add class. Styling cues, such as the triple front headlights and triple exit exhausts, complement each other fluidly.

The Sprint ST is a well-rounded platform for travel, adventure and excitment. Its success lies in its polish, the way it works as a complete machine, as a whole.

Nope, compromise does not exist for the Sprint ST. It does it all in style, quite naturally.
